XXII Olympic Winter Games

sochi2014logoDmitry LebedevWe are very pleased to commemorate the success of the major global event held in Sochi in February – the XXII Olympic Winter Games.
The Olympics closing ceremony took place just yesterday but already now we can think of the great prospects which have been created by this event – the development of the sports infrastructure, the region and the increased attractiveness of Russia for foreign investors.
The Games, which proved to be a success and which were organized along the principles of sustainable development, have left a rich legacy. This Olympic legacy will enable further positive changes in social, economic and environmental areas after the Games.

sochi2014medalsSochi has constructed more than 700 sports grounds, 47 transport infrastructure facilities, over 367 kilometers of roads and bridges, more than 200 kilometers of railway, more than 690 kilometers of utilities, 40 new hotels have been built and 15 were remodeled with a total capacity of 26,000 rooms. The Olympic project has supported the Russian economy by creating more than 690,000 jobs across the country.
For the Games, 15 sports venues were built, including 2 training ice arenas. Once the Games are over, use of these venues will be maximized in terms of efficiency and social output. Indeed, this brand new sports infrastructure will remain long after the Sochi 2014 XXII Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Thanks to the Games in 2014, Russia has entered the top three most influential sports powers in 2012 and received the status of the leader of the sports world for the period 2013-2018, according to influential Olympic portal Sportcal. Russia will stage the largest sporting events in the near future.
Many British companies have already been contributing to Sochi’s Olympic preparations in such areas as construction, design, security, power supply, legal and financial services, education, marketing and PR. Among them are: Mace, Populous, Arup, JCB and Aggreko – all in all, a few dozens of businesses.
The projects realized in Sochi by British companies during the preparations for the Olympics can serve as the great success story proving that now it is just the right time for other British companies to establish and expand their businesses in our country.
On behalf of the Russian Trade Delegation in London I would like to say a special thank to all British companies, without whose help, the successful organization of the Games would not have been possible.
