Nizhniy Novgorod is the leading city in Russia in the size of accessible consumption market. In the range of 500 kilometres there live about 43 million people, of which 24 million live in cities with population above 100 000 people, and in the range of 1000 kilometres there is about 84 million consumers, of which more than 45 million live in cities. At the same time, the purchasing power of population in these markets is higher than the average for Russia. Multimodal transportation center
Historically the Nizhniy Novgorod region possessed the multimodal transportation facilities: more than 12 000 km of roads with a twice higher density than the average for Russia; 1300 km of railways with the density three times higher than the average for Russia; about 900 km of inland waterways with freight and passenger ports; an international airport.

One of the leading Russian educational centres, which includes 17 state institutes of higher education (5 universities, 6 academies, 6 institutes), 18 branches of out-of-region and Nizhniy Novgorod institutes of higher education and 20 non-governmental institutes of higher education. In 2003 Nizhniy Novgorod region ranked 12th in the number of graduates of principal institutes of general education.
The Nizhniy Novgorod region is the automotive industry’s leader and has not less than 25% share of the domestic market. A number of leading international Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)4 have established the assembly lines in the oblast, dozens of auto-components manufacturers have followed them. Many Russian automakers5 were restructured to assemble commercial vehicles which are largely distributed at both domestic and international markets.
The unique geographic location of the region gives and access to the largest and most attractive consumer market. There is a huge manufacturing and distribution centre of Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCGs) in the region. The modern logistics centers established ensure effective and efficient shipment of raw materials and end products.
The region enjoys intensive international economic relations. The high level of internationalization, intensive exchange of information, labour resources, products and capitals provides for a high level of competitiveness of enterprises of Nizhniy Novgorod in the international markets and makes the region attractive to foreign and domestic investors.
The Nizhniy Novgorod region is one of the most attractive sites in Russia for work, education and recreation and leisure activities.
