In 2001 he founded Learning Probe International, in 2008, The International Laboratory of Advanced Education Technologies (ILAET), in 2011 GlobalLab LLC in Russia, and GlobalLab International, in the UK to advance learning solutions worldwide.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall, he organized a series of the East-West Conferences on New Technologies in Education to bridge educators and technologies from the East and West. He co-founded the Art, Science and Technology of Learning program for the United Nations, served on the “Learning Without Frontiers” task force of UNESCO’s Director General, and on the e-Learning Project of The World Bank; consulted for the European Community and IBM’s Quorum Project to network Latin American educators.

He pioneered tele-collaborative inquiry by developing Global Lab, the first online, high-school science course and one of the first student social networks. With the advent of bio- and nanotechnologies and four grants from the US National Science Foundation, he pioneered the teaching of molecular literacy using technologies as a crucial 21st century skill. For his work on molecular dynamic to enhance students’ molecular literacy, he received special prize from Science magazine (2011) for the best on-line resource in education.
