New low-carbon technology development is essential to enable UK and Russia to meet global climate change objectives, but is also a major contributor towards these countries’ innovation, jobs and growth agenda. To achieve emissions cuts of 80-95% by 2050 requires a process of decarbonising the economy. For this to materialize, new and innovative low-carbon technologies will have to be developed and deployed. The proposed workshop will explore the technical potential of development, production and application of innovative low-carbon propulsion technologies in UK and Russia and its environmental aspects for future clean transport and cities.

The main aim of this workshop is to facilitate discussions and knowledge exchange on implementation of low carbon propulsion technologies in partner countries, assist in reviewing and implementing the strategic plans for research and development with consideration of novel concepts for further technology development and given to how this can serve as an effective tool for mainstreaming low-carbon technologies into broader national policies. The objectives will be achieved via interactive workshop sessions and presentations of early career researchers from both sides, as well as presentations by workshop mentors and invited industrial and academic experts in the field.
The workshop will be organized with the following sessions:
- Bioresources and advanced biofuels for low-carbon propulsion.–This session will discuss the ways of maximizing biofuel-to-energy conversion efficiency, effect of biofuel properties and chemistry on low-carbon propulsion system performance
- Electrification in transport. – This session will cover topics on advanced battery technologies, electric machines, power electronics and fuel cells for low-carbon propulsion.
- Waste energy recovery systems. – This session will cover topics on waste energy recovery from combustion of solid waste, waste heat recovery from internal combustion engines, regenerative braking systems and energy storage technologies.
- Mathematical modeling of low-carbon propulsion systems. – This session will cover topics on mathematical modeling for maximizing the performance and efficiency of low-carbon propulsion systems.
